Lucknow, September 2, 2026: Uttar Pradesh recorded a significant rise in excise exports during the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27, with export value increasing by 45.4% between April and June 2026, according to a report by the Times of India. The state’s growth was more than twice the national growth rate of 18.3%, while excise export volumes from Uttar Pradesh surged 163% during the quarter, highlighting the growing impact of the state’s excise export policy.
Uttar Pradesh also recorded an additional export value of approximately USD 3.99 million during the April-June period. According to state government data, India’s total excise exports stood at around USD 101.7 million during the first quarter of FY2026-27, compared with Uttar Pradesh’s contribution of approximately USD 12.78 million. This was an increase from USD 8.79 million during the corresponding period of the previous year.
The state’s share of India’s total excise exports consequently increased from 10.2% to 12.6%, placing Uttar Pradesh third nationally after Maharashtra and Punjab. The sharp increase reflects the expanding role of the state’s distillery, brewery and allied industries in the export market.
Agricultural products have also emerged as an important component of Uttar Pradesh’s expanding export ecosystem. According to a state government spokesperson, around 25,000 quintals of molasses were exported from Basti during the period, generating foreign exchange earnings of approximately USD 500,000. The development highlights how agricultural commodities such as sugarcane and molasses are increasingly moving beyond local markets after processing and entering global supply chains.

The rise in export opportunities has also encouraged fresh investment and the revival of industrial capacity across the state. New units are being established by United Breweries in Unnao and Mount Everest Breweries in Hardoi, while Woodpecker GreenAgri Nutrients has set up a facility in Farrukhabad. Allied Blenders and Distillers has restarted its previously closed unit in Moradabad, while Gorakhpur-based Kian Distillery has applied for licences for a beverage distillery and brewery alongside its ethanol production operations.
Radico Khaitan is also reportedly shifting part of its export-oriented production from plants in other states to its facilities in Sitapur and Rampur, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as an emerging hub for the beverage alcohol and allied manufacturing sector.
Excise Commissioner Adarsh Singh said the benefits of rising exports extend well beyond distilleries and breweries. The sector has strong linkages with upstream industries such as sugarcane, molasses and grains, while downstream activities include glass bottle manufacturing, packaging, caps, labelling, warehousing, logistics and transportation.
The sharp rise in excise exports during Q1 FY2026-27 therefore reflects not only stronger overseas demand but also the broader industrial and agricultural ecosystem supporting Uttar Pradesh’s beverage alcohol sector. The state’s growing export share and new investments could further strengthen its position in India’s excise and processed agricultural export landscape.
