The Bengal government on Wednesday adopted an ethanol promotion policy. CM Mamata Banerjee said ethanol could be produced at farm level from rice bran and broken rice. Ethanol, which can be used as biofuel and mixed with petrol, can bring down petrol price. Its production can generate jobs and attract investment. Currently, OMCs are blending 10% ethanol with petrol. But the price benefit is not being extended to people.
