India’s alcoholic beverages market is witnessing strong seasonal momentum, with Diwali, weddings, Christmas and New Year celebrations expected to drive sales. Industry revenues are growing faster than volumes, highlighting the increasing demand for premium spirits and higher-value products.
India’s alcoholic beverages (alcobev) industry is preparing for a busy festive and wedding season, with liquor manufacturers, brewers, importers and distributors anticipating higher consumer demand during the final quarter of the calendar year. Despite a challenging macroeconomic environment, festive celebrations, social gatherings and changing consumer preferences are providing fresh growth opportunities for the sector.
According to Prowess Advisors, India’s alcoholic beverages market is registering volume growth of approximately 3–5%, while industry revenues are increasing at a faster rate of 8–10%. The difference between volume and revenue growth reflects the ongoing premiumisation trend, as consumers increasingly opt for higher-priced and premium beverage categories.

Diwali, the wedding season, Christmas and New Year celebrations contribute significantly to spirits consumption. Beer demand also receives a seasonal boost, although its sales are distributed more evenly throughout the year, with summer remaining another important demand period.
Premium Spirits and Vodka Drive Industry Growth
Kunal Madan, Chief Marketing Officer of Radico Khaitan, said the company expects encouraging demand during the festive and wedding season, supported by gifting, home entertaining and social occasions.
He highlighted that premium products continue to lead market growth, while consumer interest in white spirits, particularly gin and flavoured vodka, is increasing. However, price sensitivity remains an important consideration, keeping popular price segments and smaller packaging formats relevant.
Whisky continues to maintain a significant position in the Indian spirits market, while vodka is emerging as a strong growth category. Radico Khaitan’s Prestige & Above portfolio registered volume growth of 35.8% in Q2 FY27, while its vodka volumes increased by 49%, reflecting growing consumer interest in premium and contemporary spirits.
Allied Blenders and Distillers (ABD), the manufacturer of Officer’s Choice whisky, has also reported strong sales momentum during the current financial year. The company achieved its highest-ever monthly sales on four occasions within seven months, including consecutive records in September and October.
ABD’s monthly sales volumes crossed 3.5 million cases in September and increased further to more than 3.6 million cases in October. Combined sales for the two months exceeded 7 million cases, underlining the company’s strong market performance.
Festive Celebrations Boost Premium Liquor Sales
The festive period is also creating significant opportunities for premium imported liquor brands and lifestyle beverage products.
Kunal Patel, Managing Director of Monika Alcobev, an importer and distributor of premium alcoholic beverage brands, said sales are considerably higher than during the corresponding period last year. He attributed the growth to increasing demand in urban markets for imported lifestyle brands, premium spirits and products suited to home-bar consumption.
Diwali has strengthened retail demand, particularly in premium gifting and home-bar categories. The wedding season and winter celebrations are expected to sustain sales of spirits, soju and liqueurs. Meanwhile, experiential marketing activities, bar takeovers and year-end events are likely to support on-premise consumption through December.
Monika Alcobev is witnessing increased activity across both retail and hospitality channels. Off-premise sales through retail outlets are gaining momentum, while premium restaurants, nightlife venues and other on-premise establishments are also reporting strong demand.
Whisky, tequila, gin, rum and liqueurs remain important categories, while soju is gradually expanding its presence among consumers seeking newer beverage experiences.
Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru continue to be major markets for premium alcohol brands, supported by strong demand from urban consumers and high-end hospitality establishments. Goa and other tourist destinations are also experiencing increased market activity.
Beer Market Benefits from Weddings and Social Gatherings
Although beer consumption traditionally peaks during summer, its popularity is increasingly extending to year-round social occasions, including weddings, festive gatherings and private celebrations.
Medusa Beverages reported volume growth of 42% in FY26, selling approximately 13.5 lakh cases, while its net revenue increased by 21%. During the previous festive season, the company sold more than 11 lakh cases, demonstrating the importance of the celebratory period for its business.
Avneet Singh, Founder and CEO of Medusa Beverages, said the company expects the current festive season to benefit from a growing number of social gatherings and its expanding market presence.
Medusa is targeting incremental growth of 10–12% during the festive period, while focusing on improving product availability across its operating markets.
Delhi remains the company’s strongest market, where it held an estimated 8% market share in FY26. Its market share in Uttar Pradesh reached approximately 1% during the peak season. The company also reported encouraging festive performance in newer markets, with sales increasing by around 22% in Haryana and recording growth in Chandigarh.
Premiumisation and Value Pricing Shape Beer Consumption
The changing nature of consumer preferences is also influencing the Indian beer industry.
Vedant Kedia, Whole Time Director of Mount Everest Breweries Ltd (MEBL), said festivals, weddings and year-end celebrations create additional socialising opportunities, particularly in urban markets, contributing to higher beer consumption.
He also pointed to the growing interest in premium beer offerings, with consumers exploring different styles and flavours. However, affordability and value for money continue to influence purchasing decisions.
According to Kedia, premiumisation and price sensitivity are developing simultaneously in the market. This makes it important for breweries to offer products across multiple price points and cater to consumers with different preferences.
Strong Outlook for India’s Alcobev Industry
The October–December period is expected to remain a crucial growth window for India’s alcoholic beverages industry. Rising premium spirits demand, expanding urban consumption, wedding-related celebrations and increasing interest in diverse beverage categories are supporting market activity.
While whisky and other established spirits continue to generate substantial sales, vodka, gin, tequila, liqueurs and soju are gaining consumer attention. Beer manufacturers are also benefiting from the expansion of social drinking occasions beyond the traditional summer season.
The industry’s revenue growth outpacing volume expansion indicates a gradual shift towards higher-value products. However, affordability, popular price points and product availability will remain important factors in determining market performance.
With festive celebrations, weddings and year-end parties driving consumption, India’s alcobev companies are looking to close the calendar year on a strong note.
