Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s state-run liquor distribution agency, the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco), recorded liquor sales worth ₹771.29 crore during the first eight days of the 10-day Onam festive season, marking a significant increase over the corresponding period last year. According to Excise Department officials, Bevco sold liquor worth ₹771.29 crore through its outlets across Kerala up to August 25, compared with ₹694.96 crore during the same period of the previous Onam season.
The latest figures highlight strong consumer demand for liquor during Kerala’s major festive period and are expected to contribute significantly to the state’s excise revenue. Although sales on Uthradam day, August 25, were lower than last year, the overall festive-season sales remained substantially higher. Bevco outlets recorded liquor sales of ₹126.31 crore on Uthradam, the day before Thiruvonam, compared with ₹137.64 crore on the corresponding day last year.

The strong sales during the first eight days have raised expectations that Kerala’s total Onam liquor sales in 2026 could surpass the ₹826.38 crore recorded by Bevco during the Onam season in 2025. With two days still remaining in the 10-day festive period, officials expect sales to receive another boost as consumer demand typically peaks around the main Onam celebrations.
Bevco is a fully owned Kerala government company responsible for the procurement and distribution of alcoholic beverages across the state. Its portfolio includes Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), beer, wine, Foreign Made Foreign Liquor (FMFL) and Foreign Made Wine (FMW). The latest Onam sales figures underline the important role of liquor revenue in Kerala’s state finances and reflect the continued surge in alcohol demand during the festive season.
