Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has achieved a major milestone by collecting ₹20,862.42 crore in revenue during the first four months (April–July) of the financial year 2026–27, registering its highest-ever collection for the period. The revenue represents an increase of ₹2,279.23 crore, or 12.27 per cent, compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year, highlighting strong growth in the state’s excise revenue performance under the Yogi Adityanath government.
The department recorded particularly strong growth in July 2026, when it collected ₹5,052.86 crore, which was 16.04 per cent higher than the revenue collected in July last year. The impressive performance has strengthened the state’s efforts to meet its ambitious annual excise revenue target of ₹71,278 crore for the current financial year.
Nitin Agarwal, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Excise and Prohibition, said the department’s record-breaking performance was driven by the Yogi government’s transparent excise policies, effective monitoring mechanisms and improved administrative systems. He emphasized that the government’s objective is not limited to increasing revenue, but also includes protecting society from the harmful effects of alcohol abuse and illicit liquor activities.

Alongside revenue growth, the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has intensified its statewide crackdown on illegal liquor manufacturing, sale and smuggling. According to Excise Commissioner Dr. Adarsh Singh, the department registered 29,294 cases between April and June 2026 related to illicit liquor and narcotic substances. During this period, authorities arrested 4,673 people, sent 819 accused to jail, and seized 30 vehicles used in smuggling operations .
Enforcement action continued aggressively in July 2026, with the department registering 9,769 additional cases, arresting 1,704 individuals, and sending 271 accused to jail. Officials said the ongoing operations are aimed at dismantling illegal liquor networks, preventing revenue leakage, and ensuring stricter compliance with excise laws across Uttar Pradesh.
