Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Excise Minister has directed officials to accelerate revenue collection and ensure strict enforcement against liquor overcharging during the Excise Department’s first-quarter revenue review meeting. He emphasized that the department must achieve its ambitious revenue target for FY 2026-27 while maintaining transparency and protecting consumer interests.
Excise Revenue Rises 11.11% in First Quarter
Reviewing the department’s performance, the minister said the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department continues to be the state’s highest revenue-generating department. During the April–June 2026 quarter, the department collected ₹15,809.25 crore in excise revenue, registering an 11.11% increase compared to the corresponding period last year.
He appreciated the efforts of departmental officials and urged them to sustain the growth momentum throughout the financial year.

₹71,278 Crore Revenue Target for FY 2026-27
The minister informed officials that the Uttar Pradesh government has set an ambitious excise revenue target of ₹71,278 crore for the financial year 2026-27.
Between April and July 2026, the department collected ₹18,655.23 crore against the target of ₹21,800 crore, achieving 85.57% of the planned revenue for the period.
He instructed all field officers to closely monitor revenue collection and take proactive measures to ensure the annual target is achieved on schedule.
Zero Tolerance for Liquor Overcharging
Taking a firm stand on consumer protection, the minister directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against liquor overcharging. He said any complaint of liquor being sold above the government-approved Maximum Retail Price (MRP) must be investigated immediately, and strict action should be taken against the guilty licensees.
The minister stressed that fair pricing and compliance with excise regulations are essential to maintaining public trust.
No Fatalities from Illicit Liquor in Four and a Half Years
Highlighting the department’s enforcement efforts, the minister stated that Uttar Pradesh has not reported any fatalities caused by illicit liquor during the past four and a half years. He described this as a significant achievement resulting from continuous monitoring and strict action against illegal liquor manufacturing, smuggling, and sale.
Officials were directed to continue intensive enforcement drives to eliminate illicit liquor activities across the state.
Senior Officials Attend Revenue Review Meeting
The review meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Excise) Veena Kumari, Excise Commissioner Dr. Adarsh Singh, Special Secretary Abhishek Anand, and other senior officials. District Excise Officers and Deputy Excise Commissioners from across Uttar Pradesh participated virtually.
