Printed Bills for Liquor Purchases Coming to Tasmac Outlets in Two Weeks

In about two weeks, customers at Tasmac liquor outlets in the outskirts of Chennai will start receiving printed bills for their purchases. This is part of the state government’s push to fully digitize the operations of Tasmac, the state-run liquor monopoly.

The software developed by RailTel to automate Tasmac’s operations faced some technical issues initially, but these have now been resolved. After successful testing at seven outlets each in Arakkonam and Ramanathapuram districts, the system is now running smoothly at 14 shops with zero glitches. The plan is to expand this to all 83 outlets in Arakkonam and 110 in Ramanathapuram districts, with further expansion to six other districts, including areas in suburban Chennai, in the next phase. Tasmac aims to have all 4,829 outlets across the state fully computerised by December.

The next step involves training Tasmac staff to use scanners for generating bills, sales reports, and managing stock. There will also be a process of moving existing stock without barcodes from certain shops to ensure smooth implementation of the system.

Most distilleries and breweries, except for Midas, have already set up barcode scanners and generators. Midas, which has not supplied liquor to Tasmac in recent months, will need to install the equipment before it can resume deliveries.

In addition to the outlets, district and regional offices will also be computerized as part of the broader effort to digitize Tasmac’s operations.
