Gurgaon: Pubs, bars and restaurants operating beyond the closing hours authorised by the Excise Department will face strict action, Gurgaon Police said. Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj has directed senior police officers to conduct random inspections and ensure that establishments across the city strictly follow their permitted operating timings.
The directions were issued to all Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) through video conferencing as well as written orders. The police have made it clear that pubs, bars and restaurants will not be allowed to continue serving or operating beyond the closing time prescribed by the Excise Department.
Under the new enforcement directions, all pubs, bars and restaurants in Gurgaon will be required to prominently display their authorised operating hours at the entrance of their establishments. Operators will be responsible for ensuring that their businesses close within the timings approved by the Excise Department.
DCPs, ACPs and SHOs have been instructed to conduct random visits and inspections at pubs, bars and restaurants within their respective jurisdictions. These checks will be aimed at verifying whether establishments are complying with their authorised operating hours. The concerned DCPs and ACPs will also be responsible for ensuring effective implementation of the directions on the ground.

Gurgaon Police has warned that violations of the prescribed excise timings will be dealt with promptly. Establishments found operating beyond their authorised closing hours could face action under the applicable rules and regulations.
The Police Commissioner has also made it clear that police officers will be held accountable for any negligence in enforcing the directions. Any laxity or failure to implement the orders could invite legal and departmental action against the officials concerned.
“Strict compliance with the authorised operating timings prescribed by the Excise Department for pubs, bars and restaurants shall be ensured. No establishment shall be allowed to operate beyond the prescribed time,” Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj said.
Gurgaon Police has appealed to owners and operators of pubs, bars and restaurants to prominently display their authorised operating timings and ensure strict compliance with the prescribed closing hours. The move is aimed at strengthening enforcement of excise regulations and ensuring that licensed establishments operate within the conditions of their permissions.
