Amrut Distilleries has launched CaféX, a limited-edition Indian single malt whisky created in collaboration with Karnataka-based Harley Estate. The new expression represents Amrut’s latest innovation in whisky maturation and brings together two of Karnataka’s most celebrated traditions—single malt whisky production and specialty coffee cultivation. CaféX has been matured in casks seasoned with coffee beans sourced from Harley Estate, a historic plantation established in 1864 in Sakaleshpur, Karnataka. The release is limited to 2,400 bottles worldwide, making it one of the distillery’s most exclusive offerings

According to Amrut Distilleries, CaféX follows the company’s successful experimental releases such as Naarangi, Spectrum, and Herald, and forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen its premium Indian single malt portfolio through unique and differentiated expressions. Rakshit N Jagdale, Managing Director of Amrut Distilleries, said the whisky celebrates India’s ability to produce both world-class single malt whisky and exceptional coffee, while demonstrating the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of whisky making without losing touch with its heritage.
Purnesh, Owner of Harley Estate, said the collaboration allowed the estate to work with Amrut’s award-winning whisky barrels, whose layers of oak, spice, vanilla, fruit, and the brand’s characteristic warmth influenced the estate-grown specialty coffee. He described the project as a meeting point between Indian whisky craftsmanship and Harley Estate’s specialty coffee expertise, resulting in a bold and complex whisky barrel-aged coffee experience.
Highlighting the whisky’s flavour profile, Ashok Chokalingam, Chief Operating Officer and Master Distiller at Amrut Distilleries, called CaféX a landmark bottling, noting that its distinctive jalapeño and capsicum notes, combined with mocha and vanilla cream, are extremely rare in a single malt whisky. He added that the unusual balance of savoury vegetal character with creamy sweetness makes CaféX a “unicorn” expression likely to appeal to collectors and premium whisky enthusiasts worldwide.
