Hyderabad: The Telangana Excise Department has invited applications for 41 new 2B bar licences across the state, including locations in the Core Urban Region (CURE), municipalities and other urban areas. The latest move is expected to expand the state’s bar network and generate additional revenue through the Bar Excise Tax (BET).
Of the 41 proposed licences, 14 are earmarked for locations within the Core Urban Region (CURE), while the remaining 27 licences will be issued in municipalities and other urban areas. Several locations are set to get licensed bars for the first time under the latest exercise.
Among the locations included in the notification are Devarkadra, Ellampalli, Maddur and Gummadidala, where new bars are being proposed for the first time. Other locations listed by the Excise Department include Muduchintalapally, Yellampet, Aswaraopeta, Kalluru, Makthal, Gaddapotaram, Kohir, Bodhan, Bichkunda, Chevella, Moinabad, Kodangal, Parigi, Narsampet, Station Ghanpur, Kesamudram and Mulugu.

The latest round of bar licence applications comes a little over a year after the previous exercise. In June 2025, the Telangana Excise Department had invited applications for new 2B bar licences at 150 locations across the state. However, some of the licences issued in Hyderabad did not become operational. Officials said the department has now reissued 14 such licences as part of the latest process.
Telangana currently has around 1,185 bars, including approximately 657 bars in Hyderabad, according to officials. Bar licences in the state remain valid for life, subject to applicable renewal requirements and other conditions prescribed by the Excise Department.
The expansion of bar licences is also expected to provide a significant boost to state excise revenue. The annual Bar Excise Tax (BET) for locations within CURE is ₹44 lakh. Three specified locations will attract an annual BET of ₹42 lakh each, while the remaining locations will have an annual BET of ₹30 lakh.
Based on the applicable BET slabs, the 41 new 2B bars are expected to generate around ₹14.62 crore in annual Bar Excise Tax revenue for the Telangana government. The additional licences will therefore expand the state’s licensed bar network while contributing to its excise revenue collections.
Applicants seeking the new 2B bar licences can submit their applications until 5 PM on October 12, 2026. The Excise Department will conduct the draw of lots at 11 AM on October 16, 2026, to select successful applicants.
Applicants will also be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹1 lakh. The licence process will be conducted in accordance with the terms, eligibility requirements and conditions specified by the Telangana Excise Department.
