The Assam Excise Department has felicitated the Dimoria Excise Circle for its successful operation against an inter-state illicit liquor racket operating near the Assam-Meghalaya border. Commissioner of Excise Jitu Doly, along with Additional Commissioner Sanjib Medhi, Joint Commissioner Pranjal Bora, Deputy Commissioner Lakhinandan Baruah and Superintendent of Excise Debajit Nath, honoured the enforcement team at the Commissioner’s office on Monday for its role in dismantling the illegal liquor network.
During the felicitation ceremony, Commissioner Jitu Doly congratulated Team Dimoria for demonstrating commitment, coordination and professional excellence in liquor enforcement. The team was honoured with a traditional Gamusa as recognition for the successful operation. Doly said the operation set an example of effective enforcement and encouraged the officials to continue their efforts against illicit liquor activities.
The enforcement operation was conducted under the leadership of Senior Excise Officer Pritam Purkaistha and the direct supervision of Superintendent of Excise (Kamrup Metro) Debajit Nath. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Dimoria Excise team intercepted a commercial truck at Sonapur Toll Plaza. During the search, officials seized 123 cartons containing beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) that was restricted for sale in Meghalaya.

The investigation subsequently led officials to the source of the illicit consignment. Senior Excise Officer Sailendra Pandey said interrogation of those involved in the initial seizure helped investigators trace the liquor to a cargo warehouse in Moraxali, Paltan Bazar. A targeted raid was conducted at the warehouse under the leadership of the Deputy Superintendent of Excise (DSE), Dimoria. CCTV footage recovered during the investigation reportedly helped confirm the location from where the illicit liquor consignment had been loaded.
Two employees of the cargo facility were arrested during the follow-up operation. The primary driver involved in transporting the consignment was also arrested and subsequently remanded to judicial custody by the Learned Judicial Magistrate. The investigation is continuing to establish the wider network involved in the inter-state movement of liquor.
Superintendent of Excise Debajit Nath highlighted the importance of coordinated enforcement, saying that successful operations are the result of disciplined teamwork rather than the efforts of an individual officer. He stressed that the operation demonstrated how intelligence, vigilance, leadership and teamwork can strengthen the enforcement of excise laws.
Senior Excise Officer Sailendra Pandey also welcomed the recognition given to the Dimoria team by the department’s senior leadership. He said official appreciation and encouragement can strengthen the morale of enforcement personnel and motivate officers across the Assam Excise Department to pursue illicit liquor cases with greater determination.
The Assam Excise Department’s recognition of Team Dimoria comes as enforcement agencies continue to focus on preventing the illegal movement of liquor across state borders. The seizure of Meghalaya-restricted beer and IMFL, followed by the tracing of the supply chain to a cargo warehouse, highlights the importance of intelligence-led enforcement in tackling inter-state liquor smuggling and protecting state excise revenue.
