The Uttar Pradesh Government has launched a new initiative under its Excise Policy 2026–27 to promote wines made from fruits. The move is aimed at providing better value to fruit growers, reducing post-harvest losses, and encouraging the growth of agro-based industries across the state.
According to Rajesh Tripathi, District Excise Officer, Ghazipur, specially licensed outlets will be allowed to sell fruit wines along with fruit-based processed products such as pickles, preserves, and marmalades. To maintain quality standards, the wines will be supplied directly from licensed manufacturing units to retail outlets.
Limited Licences to Ensure Quality and Market Development
Under the policy, a maximum of two such outlets will be permitted in each district. To make these products accessible to consumers, the government has fixed a starting price of ₹150 for the products offered under the scheme.

Ghazipur has emerged as one of the leading districts in implementing the initiative. The Excise Department has already issued two V-5 licences in the district. These outlets will operate at the Mohammadabad Tehsil Headquarters and the Ghazipur Sadar Headquarters.
Licences Granted to Local Entrepreneur
According to district officials, the licences have been granted to local resident Sarita Jaiswal on the basis of authorization provided by Krishni Global Private Limited, a company based in Saharanpur.
Boost for Farmers and Rural Economy
The government expects the initiative to create a sustainable market for fruit growers by enabling value addition through fruit processing and wine production. Officials believe the policy will help increase farmers’ incomes, strengthen the fruit-processing industry, and generate new employment opportunities in rural areas.
The promotion of fruit wines is also expected to reduce wastage of perishable fruits by converting surplus produce into higher-value products.
Expansion Across Uttar Pradesh
Fruit wine retail outlets operating under the V-5 licence category have already been established in a few districts, including Noida and Ballia. With Ghazipur now joining the list, the state government hopes to expand the network further and create a stronger ecosystem for fruit-based beverages and processed agricultural products.
The initiative reflects Uttar Pradesh’s broader strategy of linking agriculture with value-added industries while creating new revenue streams for farmers and entrepreneurs alike.

Ranvijay Singh Paltur, an Excise Inspector posted in Sultanpur, has been honoured with the prestigious “Akbar Allahabadi Award” for his short novel “Parajit Nayak” (The Defeated Hero).
The award was presented on 22 March 2026 during a ceremony held at City Montessori School, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. As part of the honour, Singh received a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with a citation recognizing his literary contribution.
