The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has started the financial year 2026-27 on an encouraging footing, achieving and surpassing its monthly revenue target in April 2026. Against a target of ₹5,200 crore, the department collected ₹5,248.06 crore, achieving 100.92% of the monthly target.
The performance indicates a strong continuation of the revenue growth momentum witnessed during FY 2025-26, when the state recorded a historic excise revenue collection of ₹57,722.26 crore. The successful achievement of the April target reflects sustained consumer demand, effective enforcement measures, and improved efficiency in revenue collection.
District-wise performance data reveals that several districts recorded exceptional year-on-year growth. Ballia emerged as the top-performing district with a remarkable growth rate of 129.27%, followed by Balrampur at 121.49% and Sambhal at 117.69%. Hathras and Pilibhit also delivered strong performances, registering growth of 115.10% and 114.48% respectively.

Among the other leading contributors, Lakhimpur Kheri recorded growth of 113.82%, while Badaun, Sitapur, Pratapgarh and Shravasti all posted growth exceeding 112%, highlighting the widespread improvement in excise revenue realization across the state.
The achievement is significant as April traditionally sets the tone for the entire financial year. Surpassing the monthly target in the very first month provides a positive indication that the Excise Department is on track to maintain its growth trajectory and contribute substantially to the state’s fiscal resources.
Officials attribute the strong performance to better compliance, effective monitoring mechanisms, streamlined licensing processes, and robust enforcement against illicit liquor activities. The continued expansion of the organized liquor market and increasing economic activity across the state have also supported revenue growth.
With the first month already exceeding expectations, the Excise Department will now aim to sustain this momentum in the coming months and build upon the record-breaking performance achieved during the previous financial year. The strong April figures reinforce Uttar Pradesh’s position as one of the country’s largest contributors to excise revenue and underline the sector’s growing importance in the state’s overall revenue framework.
