Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has registered a significant rise in revenue collections during the first two months of the financial year 2026-27, with Excise Duty and Goods & Services Tax (GST) emerging as the largest contributors to the state’s earnings.
According to Excise Minister Nitin Agarwal, between 1 April and 27 May 2026, the state collected ₹20,621.24 crore in revenue, compared to ₹18,204.80 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year. This represents an increase of ₹2,416.42 crore in overall revenue collection.
The sharpest growth was recorded in GST collections, which rose from ₹8,943.48 crore in 2025-26 to ₹9,783.34 crore in 2026-27, registering an increase of ₹839.86 crore.

Excise revenue also witnessed robust growth. Collections increased from ₹4,319.46 crore to ₹5,251.02 crore, reflecting a rise of ₹931.56 crore, making it one of the highest contributors to the state’s revenue expansion.
Other key revenue sources also showed positive growth:
- VAT: Increased by ₹114.28 crore, from ₹994.56 crore to ₹1,108.84 crore.
- Stamp & Registration: Rose by ₹141.32 crore, from ₹2,729.43 crore to ₹2,870.75 crore.
- Transportation: Recorded an increase of ₹273.87 crore, from ₹1,043.15 crore to ₹1,317.02 crore.
- Geology & Mining: Increased by ₹114.53 crore, from ₹174.74 crore to ₹289.27 crore.
The Excise Minister stated that the strong performance reflects the state government’s continued focus on revenue mobilization, improved compliance, and effective enforcement measures across various departments. The substantial growth in excise collections is particularly noteworthy, highlighting the expanding contribution of the alcoholic beverage sector to Uttar Pradesh’s fiscal resources.
With total revenue collections surpassing ₹20,600 crore within the first two months of the fiscal year, Uttar Pradesh has made a strong start to FY 2026-27 and remains on track to achieve its annual revenue targets.
