Liquor prices in Telangana may increase soon, as the government is expected to take a final decision later this month.
Price increase under review
Sources say the Excise Department has been asked to study a possible price hike. A three-member committee is currently reviewing proposals sent by liquor companies.
Based on production costs and market conditions, prices could be increased across different categories.

Why prices may rise
Officials say the main reason is rising production costs. Global factors, including issues in West Asia, have increased gas prices, which are used in making bottles.
Liquor companies have been asking the government to revise prices due to higher expenses. Usually, liquor prices in the state are updated once every two years.
Government trying to balance things
The government is trying to balance earning more revenue and avoiding public anger.
A big price hike could upset people and may also lead to illegal liquor production. So, officials are considering a moderate increase that works for both the government and the industry.
Expected revenue boost
If prices are increased, the government could earn around ₹250 crore more every month, which means nearly ₹3,000 crore extra in a year.
The committee is expected to submit its report soon, after which the final decision will be made.
