Bengaluru Liquor Ban: Bengaluru Police have imposed restrictions on the sale of liquor in several parts of the city during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and immersion processions. The restrictions came into effect from September 16 and will remain in force in designated police station limits until September 20, with the timings varying according to the area.
The liquor sale restrictions have been introduced as a precautionary measure in view of Ganesh idol immersion processions and the movement of large crowds across different parts of Bengaluru. Under the order issued by the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, liquor shops operating under licences other than CL-4, which covers clubs, and CL-6(A), which applies to star hotels, have been prohibited from selling liquor during the specified periods.
While liquor sales have been restricted, restaurants and hotels are allowed to continue serving food. The restrictions apply only during the hours and within the police station jurisdictions specified in the police order.
In the RT Nagar, JC Nagar, Hebbal, Sanjay Nagar and DJ Halli police station areas, the liquor sale restriction began at 10 am on September 16 and continues until 1 am on September 17. On September 18, restrictions will be in force from 10 am to 11:59 pm across several areas, including Sampigehalli, Amruthahalli, Kothanur, Hennur, Banaswadi, Govindapura, KG Halli, DJ Halli, Pulakeshi Nagar, Bharati Nagar, Commercial Street, Shivaji Nagar, Indira Nagar and Halasuru.

Further restrictions will apply from September 19 to September 20 in RT Nagar, JC Nagar, Hebbal, Sanjay Nagar, DJ Halli, Bharati Nagar and Pulakeshi Nagar. In these areas, the restriction will run from 10 am on September 19 until 1 am on September 20. On September 20, liquor sales will again be restricted from 10 am to 11:59 pm in Pulakeshi Nagar, Bharati Nagar, Commercial Street, Shivaji Nagar and Halasuru.
The order also covers areas falling under Yelahanka New Town and Vidyaranyapura police station limits. These include Sambhram College Road to MS Palya, Jalli Machine Circle, Chikkabettahalli, Doddabettahalli, Attur Main Road, Dairy Circle, 16 B Main, Chikkabommasandra, LBS Nagar, Doddabommasandra and Ramachandrapur. In these locations, the liquor sale ban will remain in force from 6 am to 11:59 pm on September 20.
The restrictions are part of Bengaluru’s security arrangements for Ganesh Chaturthi immersion processions, when large numbers of devotees are expected to participate in celebrations and processions. Residents and liquor retailers in the affected areas have been advised to follow the police order during the specified periods.
