Indian Arrack Set for Global Recognition as Manavatti Targets Premium Spirits Marke
New Delhi: India’s traditional arrack, long regarded as a local country liquor, is now being positioned as a premium international spirit. Manavatti, a brand created by UK-based London Baron Limited, is working to establish Indian arrack alongside globally recognized spirits such as Scotch whisky, tequila, cognac, and Japanese sake.
The company has also claimed to introduce a 96.2% ABV (Alcohol by Volume) spirit, showcasing its advanced distillation capabilities while drawing global attention to India’s traditional beverage heritage.
A Vision to Give Indian Arrack a Global Identity
The idea behind Manavatti originated with John Xavier, an entrepreneur from Kochi, Kerala, who later moved to the United Kingdom. While living abroad, he noticed that countries like Scotland, Mexico, and Japan had successfully turned their traditional spirits into internationally respected premium brands.

Inspired by this, Xavier envisioned creating a premium identity for Indian arrack and founded London Baron Limited to introduce the spirit to global consumers.
The Story Behind the Name ‘Manavatti’
The brand name carries a personal connection. During the 1980s and 1990s, Xavier’s family reportedly used the Malayalam word “Manavatti,” meaning “Bride,” as a discreet code word when referring to liquor at home. The nostalgic family reference eventually became the identity of the premium spirit brand.
More Than a Brand—Building an Entire Category
Rather than marketing just another alcoholic beverage, Manavatti aims to establish “Indian Arrack” as a recognized premium spirits category worldwide.
The company hopes to see Indian arrack featured in:
- Premium international bars
- Airport duty-free outlets
- Luxury liquor stores
- Global hospitality chains
The long-term objective is to position Indian arrack alongside internationally established spirits in the global beverage industry.
96.2% Alcohol Spirit Highlights Advanced Distillation
Manavatti has claimed to launch a commercial spirit containing 96.2% alcohol, which, if independently verified, would rank among the strongest commercially available spirits.
The company says the product demonstrates its expertise in high-proof distillation technology rather than serving as an everyday drinking spirit.
Indian Heritage Meets European Distillation Technology
Manavatti combines Indian tradition with European production expertise.
According to the company, its products are inspired by Kerala’s traditional coconut arrack while utilizing modern distillation facilities in Poland. Selected variants reportedly incorporate rye grain, pure coconut water, and carefully chosen botanical ingredients to deliver a premium taste profile designed for international markets.
Changing the Image of Indian Arrack
Historically, arrack in India has often been associated with inexpensive local liquor. Manavatti is attempting to change that perception through premium packaging, refined branding, and international-quality presentation.
The brand is already available in more than 250 licensed retail stores in the United Kingdom and has expanded its presence to Cochin International Airport’s duty-free outlet, with further international expansion underway.
International Recognition
Despite being a relatively new entrant, Manavatti has received recognition at prestigious global competitions, including:
- London Spirits Competition
- International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC)
The brand has earned bronze medals, reflecting growing international appreciation for Indian-made premium spirits.
Multiple Product Variants
Besides its flagship high-strength spirit, Manavatti’s portfolio includes:
- 44% ABV Original
- 71% ABV Overproof
- Magic Variant, which reportedly changes colour when mixed with lemon juice.
These products are designed to appeal to different consumer preferences while highlighting innovation in the premium spirits segment.
A New Chapter for Indian Spirits
Manavatti represents more than a commercial liquor brand. It reflects an effort to elevate India’s traditional distilling heritage onto the global stage.
If the company’s vision succeeds, Indian arrack could emerge as a recognized premium spirit category alongside Scotch whisky, tequila, cognac, and sake, giving India’s indigenous beverage traditions a stronger international identity.
