Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Star Hotels Association (ASHA) has welcomed recent reforms introduced by the state government in its excise policy, thanking both the government and the Excise Department for acting on the industry’s suggestions.
A delegation led by ASHA President RV Swamy, General Secretary S. Murthy Chittoory, and member Sharun Valluri met Principal Secretary (Excise) Mukesh Kumar Meena to express their appreciation for the progressive steps taken to support the hospitality sector.
Among the key reforms, ASHA highlighted the approval of microbreweries in classified hotels, which is expected to boost tourism and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s potential as a destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). The association also welcomed the introduction of the bottle indent system, allowing hotels to offer premium liquor and new brands to better serve high-end domestic and international guests.
Another important change is the removal of price differences between retail liquor shops and hotel bars. This move is likely to create fair pricing and improve the competitiveness of hotels, especially for events such as weddings, corporate functions, and conferences.
ASHA believes these reforms will enhance investor confidence and help position Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for tourism and hospitality.

During the meeting, the association also proposed additional measures, including a clear Beach Shack Policy with long-term licenses and expanded service permissions. It also suggested allowing more flexibility in depot access and self-transport of premium liquor to improve availability and guest experience.
ASHA stated that these steps would promote high-value tourism, improve ease of doing business, increase state revenues, and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s image as a modern and investor-friendly destination. The association assured the government of its full support in implementing these initiatives effectively.
