Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd (ABDL), known for popular liquor brands in India, is now aiming for bigger growth by focusing on high-end products and expanding into international markets.
According to the company’s latest annual report, ABDL is growing its presence in the super-premium and luxury liquor categories using a “build, buy, and partner” strategy. The company believes that rising incomes, changing lifestyles, and growing interest in premium brands—especially among urban consumers—are creating the perfect opportunity to upgrade its offerings.
Chairman’s Vision
Chairman Kishore R Chhabria told shareholders that the company is committed to offering better experiences to consumers and promoting Indian liquor brands globally. He said the trend of premiumisation is reshaping the entire industry—from launching innovative new products to creating better in-store and on-premise experiences.
“This is the right time for brands to stand out,” he said, pointing to factors like social media influence, favorable demographics, and rising disposable incomes as key drivers.
Growing Global Presence
Managing Director Alok Gupta shared that ABDL now exports to 23 countries, up from 14 last year. The company is focusing on fast-growing markets such as Africa and has recently entered the US.
Their newest premium product, ICONiQ White, has already launched in five countries, and the company plans to begin exports of Zoya Gin, its first luxury gin, to the UAE in early FY26.
ABDL has also secured the necessary permissions to start exporting to Canada and European Union markets soon.
Boost from India-UK Trade Deal
The company is optimistic about the recently signed India-UK Free Trade Agreement, which will lower import duties on Scotch whisky and gin from 150% to 75%, and eventually down to 40% over 10 years. Gupta noted that this change will help improve profit margins, especially as the company sources Scotch for some of its products.
Financial Performance
In FY25, ABDL reported a 6.2% rise in revenue, reaching ₹3,541 crore. This growth was mainly driven by its Prestige & Above segment, which includes premium and high-margin brands.
Looking Ahead
With a strong brand lineup and a clear strategy for growth, ABDL plans to keep expanding both in India and abroad. The company’s focus will remain on offering top-quality products, tapping into premium categories, and building a strong global presence.
