For the first time, a large shipment of liquor from Kerala has reached Lakshadweep

On Monday, 267 cases of Indian-made foreign liquor and beer arrived at Bangaram Island from the Kerala State Beverages Corporation. Of this, 80% was beer. The shipment is a historic move, as it’s the first significant delivery of liquor to Lakshadweep by the state-run corporation.

The Kerala government had previously given approval for the import of Indian-made foreign liquor, beer, and foreign-made foreign liquor to Lakshadweep. This approval came after a request from the Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports (SPORTS), which manages tourism initiatives on the islands.

The shipment included 215 cases of beer, 39 cases of foreign liquor, and 13 cases of Indian-made foreign liquor. However, the liquor will only be sold on Bangaram Island, which is a tourist-only island. Other islands in the region will remain alcohol-free.

Bangaram Island, located near Agatti Island, is popular with foreign tourists and offers cottages and huts for accommodation. This liquor shipment was a special, one-time permission from the government, and the Beverages Corporation made ₹21 lakh in sales from it.
