Diageo, the British spirits company, has launched its 2024 Special Releases collection of single malt Scotch whisky. This year’s theme, “Spirited Xchange Second Edition,” continues the exploration of flavor in whisky production and encourages innovative thinking with the question, “What if?”
Building on a legacy that spans two decades, this collection showcases eight unique expressions crafted by master blender Dr. Stuart Morrison. He emphasized that the collection aims to challenge traditional whisky-making through creative cask combinations and maturation techniques.
Among the highlights are:
- Midnight Dusk from Mortlach and Autumn Walk from The Singleton.
- Tidal Churn from Talisker, which reflects the distillery’s maritime heritage using a unique stone-spun method to enhance flavors of pear and apple alongside its characteristic smoky notes.
- Fireside Tales from Lagavulin, featuring unexpected sweetness from its maturation in bourbon and refill casks.
- Grand Crescendo, a 21-year-old whisky from Benrinnes, showcases a mix of maturation methods for a complex flavor profile.
- Origami Kite 2, the second release from Roseisle Distillery, and Ambrosial Feast from Caol Ila, which is an unpeated expression emphasizing fruity notes.
- Coastal Orchard from Oban, finished in freshly charred American oak barrels with Sherry seasoning, blending coastal and orchard fruit flavors.
The 2024 Special Releases will be available in limited quantities at select Scotch whisky retailers and on malts.com.
