Rangapur: Allied Blenders and Distillers Limited (ABD), one of India’s leading spirits companies, has commenced commercial operations at its new malt distillery in Rangapur, Telangana, marking a significant step in strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and expanding its premium spirits portfolio. Announced on October 22, 2026, the greenfield facility has an approved manufacturing capacity of approximately 4.4 million bulk litres (BL) per annum and is expected to enhance the company’s in-house malt spirit production, supply chain integration and product development capabilities.
The new distillery will enable ABD to manufacture malt spirit internally, giving the company greater control over a critical raw material used in its whisky portfolio. By bringing this production process in-house, ABD aims to ensure consistent product quality, strengthen supply reliability and reduce its exposure to fluctuations in the external market. The facility is also expected to support operational efficiency and provide a stronger foundation for the company’s long-term premiumisation strategy.
Commenting on the commencement of operations, Amar Sinha, Managing Director of ABD, said the facility represents an important milestone in the company’s approach to backward integration and manufacturing excellence. He noted that producing critical inputs internally could help improve operating margins, protect core brands from market volatility and establish a robust platform for developing next-generation spirits.

The facility will allow the company to begin laying down malt spirit for maturation, creating the foundation for the development of its own Indian single malt whisky in the coming years. Whisky maturation requires time in oak casks, meaning the commercial availability of any new single malt expression will depend on the maturation period and subsequent product development decisions.
The Rangapur facility has emerged as a central manufacturing hub in ABD’s expansion strategy. With existing grain distillation, PET bottle manufacturing and bottling operations, the addition of malt distillation strengthens the site’s integrated production capabilities. This manufacturing structure allows the company to exercise greater control over production costs, quality standards and supply continuity across multiple stages of its operations.
The commissioning of the malt distillery comes amid growing interest in premium and Indian-made spirits, including single malt whiskies. As domestic producers invest in manufacturing infrastructure and product innovation, ABD’s new facility could strengthen its ability to expand its premium offerings and respond to evolving consumer preferences.

With commercial operations now underway, ABD is positioning Rangapur as a strategic base for future growth, combining backward integration with long-term investment in premium whisky development. The facility is expected to play an important role in supporting the company’s manufacturing resilience, portfolio expansion and ambitions in India’s increasingly competitive premium spirits market.
