India’s premium whisky industry has achieved another significant international milestone, highlighting the rapid growth of Indian single malts in the global spirits market.
At the International Whisky Competition (IWC) 2026, Indian whiskies delivered a strong performance across key categories. The IWC, established in 2010, evaluates whiskies through blind tasting. Entries are assessed individually on factors such as appearance, aroma, taste, balance, complexity and finish, making the competition an important benchmark for whisky producers and enthusiasts.
Indri Leads Indian Whisky Rankings
In the Best Indian Whisky category, Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2025 secured the top position with a score of 93.53 points.
It was followed by Indri Dru Cask Strength Single Malt Indian Whisky, which scored 90.87 points, while Indri Agneya Single Malt Indian Whisky ranked third with 89.70 points.
The same three expressions also occupied the top three positions in the Best Single Malt Indian Whisky category, demonstrating the strong showing of Indri’s portfolio at this year’s competition.
Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2025 also finished sixth overall in the competition, placing an Indian single malt among the highest-rated whiskies from across the participating categories.
Indian Whisky Gains Global Recognition
The latest results reflect a broader transformation in India’s whisky industry. Indian distilleries are increasingly focusing on premium products, innovative maturation techniques and different cask finishes to develop distinctive flavour profiles.
India’s climatic conditions can also influence whisky maturation, while growing expertise in distillation and cask management is helping domestic producers develop products aimed at both Indian and international consumers.
The growing number of international awards is strengthening the credibility of Indian single malts in export markets and supporting the country’s emergence as an important premium whisky-producing region.
Strong Performance in Blended Whisky
Indian brands also performed well in the Best Blended Indian Whisky category. Seagram’s Blender’s Pride Reserve Collection took first place with 85.87 points, followed by Seagram’s Oaken Glow at 85.03 points.
Seagram’s Royal Stag Double Dark Peaty Whisky completed the top three.
The results show that India’s progress is not limited to the single malt segment. Domestic whisky producers are increasingly developing premium and differentiated products across multiple categories.
India’s Premium Whisky Journey
The IWC 2026 results come as premiumisation continues to reshape India’s alcoholic beverage industry. Consumers are showing greater interest in provenance, production methods, maturation and flavour profiles, creating opportunities for premium Indian whisky brands.
With Indian single malts increasingly earning recognition alongside established whisky-producing nations, international awards are helping strengthen the country’s reputation as an emerging force in the global whisky market.
The performance of Indian brands at the International Whisky Competition 2026 therefore represents more than a collection of awards. It reflects the growing ambition of Indian distillers to build globally recognised premium whisky brands.
