NECBDC Acquires Innovative Bamboo Wine Production Technology
In a major step towards promoting bamboo-based innovation in Northeast India, the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) has acquired a pioneering bamboo wine production technology developed by the College of Food Technology (COFT), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal. The technology is expected to create new avenues for value-added bamboo products and strengthen the region’s bamboo-based economy.
Bamboo Shoots and Powder Can Now Be Converted into Wine
The newly developed process enables the production of premium-quality wine using bamboo shoots and bamboo powder. By transforming bamboo into a commercially viable beverage product, the technology offers an innovative solution for utilizing bamboo resources beyond their traditional applications in handicrafts, furniture, and construction.
New Opportunities for Entrepreneurs and Farmers
Industry experts believe the technology could generate significant opportunities for bamboo growers, startups, self-help groups, and small-scale entrepreneurs across the Northeast. The development has the potential to encourage the establishment of agro-processing units, create employment, and increase income generation through bamboo-based enterprises.
