Medusa Beverages Pvt Ltd has launched Modern Drinks, a wholly owned distribution subsidiary aimed at addressing long-standing supply chain and market access challenges in India’s alcoholic beverages (AlcoBev) industry. Founded by Avneet Singh, the company is positioning the new platform as a distribution-first solution, beginning operations in Delhi across both retail and HoReCa (hotels, restaurants and cafés) channels. The move reflects a strategic shift for Medusa Beverages from being primarily a brand builder to becoming an infrastructure-driven player focused on enabling scale through stronger distribution networks.
The launch comes at a time when India’s AlcoBev sector continues to face a persistent gap between consumer demand and on-shelf availability, largely due to fragmented distribution systems. Despite strong branding, premium positioning and growing consumer interest, many alcohol brands struggle to achieve consistent market presence because of state-level excise regulations, licensing complexities and dependence on regional distributors. By integrating warehousing, logistics, regulatory navigation and last-mile delivery into a single platform, Modern Drinks aims to streamline this process and provide brands with greater speed, control and reliability in reaching the market.
Delhi has been chosen as the first operational market due to its scale, complexity and dense HoReCa ecosystem, making it one of the most competitive alco-beverage markets in India. Success in the capital is expected to serve as a blueprint for expansion into other major cities. According to Singh, the initiative is built on the belief that most alcohol brands in India do not suffer from a demand problem but from a distribution problem, and solving this bottleneck can unlock significant growth opportunities for the sector.

With Modern Drinks, Medusa Beverages is also pursuing a vertical integration strategy that allows it to strengthen its own market reach while simultaneously offering distribution services to other alco-bev brands. This dual approach could reduce reliance on third-party distributors and create a more efficient route-to-market model. As India’s alco-beverage market continues to expand, driven by premiumisation trends and evolving consumer preferences, the importance of reliable distribution infrastructure is expected to grow further.
Industry observers see the launch as a notable development in the evolving alco-bev ecosystem, where control over distribution is increasingly becoming a competitive advantage. If the model proves successful in Delhi, Modern Drinks could scale to other Tier-1 markets and potentially reshape how alcohol brands approach market expansion in India. The industry is expected to closely watch its rollout, particularly in terms of multi-state expansion and partnerships with emerging and established beverage brands.
