The Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) has asked the state government to clarify its VAT rules for liquor dealers. This comes after a recent Trade Circular issued under the Goa VAT Act, 2005 raised concerns in the industry.
GCCI said that offering discounts and incentives is a regular part of business in the liquor trade and should not lead to extra tax burdens. They pointed out that the Goa GST Amendment Act had successfully addressed similar issues by reducing legal disputes and improving ease of doing business. GCCI urged the government to adopt the same approach under the older VAT law.
They also requested that any new changes to the law should only apply going forward and not be used to reopen old tax cases.
