Pernod Ricard India has broken ground on Asia’s largest malt distillery and maturation facility in Butibori, Nagpur, marking a significant investment in the country. This project aims to create a complete production system for world-class malt spirits, with a planned capacity of up to 13 million liters of pure alcohol annually.
The distillery is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government, signed on February 23, 2024. Pernod Ricard plans to invest up to ₹1,785 crore in India over the next decade, with approximately ₹100 crore already committed for initial costs, including land.
Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, highlighted that this investment emphasizes India’s rising global economic status. He noted that the project will create direct jobs for 700 to 800 people and generate indirect employment, benefiting local farmers by providing opportunities to grow high-quality barley.
Jean Touboul, CEO of Pernod Ricard India, expressed pride in contributing to Maharashtra’s economic and social development, aiming to establish India as a hub for premium malt spirits.
