The Uttar Pradesh government has reported an excise revenue collection of Rs 36,208.44 Crs during the 2021-22 financial year as against expected revenue of Rs 34,500 crore in 2021-22, up more than 20.45 per cent from Rs 30,061.44 crore during 2020-21.


As per the press release report UP Additional Chief Secretary, Excise, Sanjay Bhoosreddy and Excise Commissioner Senthil Pandian said “We delivered as promised, our commitment of Rs.36,000 Crs plus, despite 3 successive COVID waves and lockdowns & night curfews”
After the Yogi Adityanath government came to power recently, the UP excise revenue has been on a high growth trajectory posting growths of averaging 20 per cent for the last 5 year tenures it has been in office.
The Uttar Pradesh government is targetting to mop up about Rs 41,000 crore in excise revenue in this 2022-23 financial year. Compared to the target of Rs 34,500 crore for the current fiscal year 2021-22, the target for this year is almost 19 percent higher.
Besides, the new policy aims at providing liquor at reasonable prices, attracting investment, and transforming UP into a self-sustainable producing state.
According to UP Additional Chief Secretary, Excise, Sanjay Bhoosreddy, the new policy has the objective of increasing the income of farmers by protecting crops from being destroyed and creating employment opportunities.
This foresightedness has helped the UP Excise to increase its revenue with a good margin as always. Also in the previous reports he added “Further, we aim at keeping the consumption of liquor in safe limits and eradicate the monopoly of liquor mafias by ushering in transparency and fairness in the allotment of shops,” he added.

The upswing in UP excise revenue under the new dispensation has been attributed to a new policy aimed at curbing liquor smuggling and weeding out well entrenched liquor cartels; at the same time promoting ease of doing business with licensing procedure more simplified and kept on fast track by the department.

In the other press releases, Nitin Agarwal; the new excise minister has assured to further strengthen the enforcement and how can we improve the policing of the enforcement wing of the department and have set new goals to generate maximum revenue from the department and to fulfill the Yogi govt to make Uttar Pradesh a one trillion-dollar economy.
UP Distillers Association (UPDA) Mr SK Shukla also congratulated the department for meeting its revenue target despite the COVID impact.
