Liquor worth Rs 18.9L seized at Colva, Morjim and Panjim

MARGAO/PERNEM/PANJIM:  The State Police seized illicit liquor worth nearly Rs 18.9 lakh in separate raids conducted at Colva, Morjim and Panjim.

In the first case, Colva Police conducted a raid on a building in Colva and seized illicit liquor worth Rs 11.41 lakh which was stored in the storeroom.

Police said they received information on the illicit liquor and later PI Melson Colaco along with PSI Jaideep Amre and other staff conducted the raid and seized the liquor bottles stored in the building’s storeroom.

The police conducted the panchanama in presence of two panchas and seized the liquor bottles.

Police said they received information that the owner was likely to shift the liquor bottles to other places. Police said no one has been arrested.

Colva police said they have handed over the seized liquor bottles to the inspector of Salcete Excise Department.

In Morjim, the Pernem Police team seized illicit liquor worth over Rs 5 lakh in two separate raids at Vithaldas Wada.

In first raid, liquor worth Rs 4.54 lakh was found stored in a private godown of a restaurant while in the second, liquor worth Rs 50,780 was stored in mini super market. The total illicit liquor worth over Rs 5 lakh was seized in the raids. Pernem Police handed over the seized illicit liquor to the Pernem Excise Department.

The team comprised PI Vikram Naik, PSIs Vivek Halarnkar and Baburao Desai, PCs Sandesh Varak, Vinod Pednekar, Sagar Khorjuvekar, Swapnil Shirodkar and Gurudas Mandrekar.

In the capital city, Panjim police conducted a raid on a wine store at Patto and seized liquor bottles/cans of various brands all worth Rs 2.5 lakh.

The police said the illicit liquor will be handed over to the Excise Department and is part of raids being conducted across the State.
