Harpal Singh Cheema announced that Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Department has exceeded its revenue target for the financial year 2025–26.
Against a revised target of ₹11,200 crore, the department collected ₹11,782 crore by March 31, 2026—surpassing the target by ₹582 crore.
The minister credited this achievement to strong government policies and better administration. He highlighted that excise revenue in the state has nearly doubled over the past four years, rising from ₹6,254.84 crore to ₹11,782 crore. For the next financial year (2026–27), the government has set a higher target of ₹12,800 crore.
Cheema said the growth reflects the government’s focus on increasing revenue while maintaining transparency and ensuring compliance in the liquor trade.

Looking ahead, the excise policy for 2026–27 includes a license fee target of ₹10,520 crore, up from ₹9,877 crore in the previous year. All 207 retail liquor groups in the state have already been allotted for the new financial year, showing strong confidence from license holders in the government’s policy.
He added that the overall response to the new excise policy has been positive, helping maintain stability in the liquor market while ensuring steady revenue for the state.
