Kerala just launched a new liquor brand called Malabar Mystery. It’s made by the government’s own company, BEVCO.
A few months back, BEVCO asked people to suggest names for their new drink. Almost 40,000 people sent ideas! Many liked “Malabar Mist” because it sounds nice and reminds people of the foggy hills in north Kerala. But there was a small problem with the name, so they changed it to Malabar Mystery — something more interesting and mysterious.
On February 21, 2026, the new factory in Menonpara, Palakkad started working. The Excise Minister MB Rajesh came and opened it. This big new plant can make more than 1 lakh litres of liquor every day. It has three automatic machines that fill bottles very fast.
The first bottles coming out are 500 ml size, and the price will be around ₹400 — almost same as their popular rum called ‘Jawan’.
Right now they are taking water from Malampuzha Dam, but later they plan to use rainwater so it’s better for the environment.
People in Kerala are talking about it a lot. Some are excited to try the new drink. Others remember there was some argument earlier about the name contest, but now everything is cleared and the bottles are ready to go to shops.
Many feel happy because it’s made in Kerala, so the government gets more money from it, and people get a good, cheap option instead of only big company brands.
So now in Kerala’s government liquor shops, you will soon see Malabar Mystery sitting next to Jawan rum. Everyone is waiting to see — will people like it? Will it become the next favourite drink?
