The Chhattisgarh government has announced that all liquor shops in the state will soon move to a cashless payment system. The step is aimed at making transactions easier for customers, ensuring transparency, and improving revenue monitoring.
Excise and Commercial Taxes Minister Lakhhanlal Dewangan said that digital payment facilities will be available at every liquor outlet. This change is part of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s plan to modernize the state’s liquor trade and bring more accountability.
To strengthen oversight, the minister has also ordered CCTV cameras to be installed in all liquor shops with round-the-clock monitoring from the headquarters. He warned of strict action against the sale and consumption of alcohol at unauthorized places like hotels, roadside eateries, and farmhouses.
The government has directed officials to launch strong action against the production, storage, transportation, and sale of illicit liquor and narcotics, along with tighter checks at interstate borders to stop smuggling and black marketing.
During a departmental review meeting, Excise Secretary R. Shangeeta shared updates on revenue targets and ongoing work. The minister stressed effective implementation of these reforms to boost state revenue and curb illegal liquor trade.
With the new cashless system and strict surveillance, the government hopes to make liquor sales more customer-friendly, transparent, and disciplined while tackling illicit operations.
