Liquor prices in Telangana are likely to increase from May, as rising global costs and supply disruptions begin to impact the industry. The expected hike comes at a time when both manufacturers and the state’s excise system are under growing pressure.
One of the main reasons behind this development is the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has affected natural gas supplies. This has pushed up the cost of producing glass bottles, leading to reduced production and higher packaging expenses for distilleries.
Distillery operators have raised concerns over increasing input costs and have requested the government to approve a price revision. They have proposed a hike of around 12–15 percent, citing financial strain and supply challenges.
The state government is currently reviewing the proposal and has formed a judicial committee, headed by a retired judge, to study the matter. The committee will examine factors such as bottle sizes, brand categories, and taxation before submitting its recommendations.
Meanwhile, beer prices are expected to see a sharper increase due to strong summer demand. Consumption is rising rapidly, but supply has not kept pace, leading to shortages in some areas.

Officials are also wary of possible black market activity if supply issues continue. A final decision on the price revision is expected after the committee submits its report, with an announcement likely in May.
Overall, a mix of global disruptions and local demand-supply pressures is set to drive a noticeable increase in liquor prices across Telangana.
