Kavalan Named ‘Distiller of the Year’ at World Whiskies Awards 2026

Taiwan’s leading whisky producer, Kavalan Distillery, has reached a major global milestone by being named Distiller of the Year at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards 2026.

This marks the first time Kavalan has received the top global honour, elevating it from a regional standout to one of the world’s most respected whisky makers. Previously, the distillery had been recognised as “Distiller of the Year – Rest of World,” but this latest win firmly places it among the global elite.

Chairman Y.T. Lee expressed pride and humility at the recognition, calling the awards a true benchmark of excellence in the whisky industry. He noted that the achievement reflects not only Kavalan’s commitment to craftsmanship and quality but also brings pride to Taiwan as a whole. Over the past two decades, Kavalan has now earned 19 top-level distillery honours, highlighting its consistent growth and excellence.

The award also recognises Kavalan’s strength in whisky-making, including its expertise in cask selection, flavour development, and overall craftsmanship. Beyond production, the distillery has been praised for enhancing visitor experiences, strengthening its brand story, driving product innovation, and focusing on sustainability and corporate responsibility.

Adding to its success, two of Kavalan’s whiskies performed exceptionally well at this year’s competition. Both Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky and Kavalan Distiller’s Reserve No.1 Single Malt Whisky were named category winners for Taiwan and advanced to the final round.

Organised by Whisky Magazine, the World Whiskies Awards is considered one of the most authoritative competitions in the global whisky industry. Established in 2007, the awards evaluate thousands of entries from across the world through a rigorous three-stage blind tasting process conducted by expert judges, including journalists, retailers, distillers, and industry specialists.

The awards aim to recognise and promote the finest whiskies globally, celebrating excellence in flavour, complexity, and character, while also honouring the people and organisations that shape the whisky industry.
