Kolkata: Starting December 1, liquor lovers in Bengal will have to pay a little more for their favourite drinks, as prices are set to rise by up to 4%. The good news — beer and wine prices will stay the same. The last revision took place in August 2024.
According to an official circular, the additional excise duty on all categories of India-made liquor (IML), Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), and overseas spirits bottled in India (OSBI) will be revised from December 1, 2025. The pass fee for bottled-in-India (BIO) products will also be updated.
All existing stocks of liquor — except those already moved to retail shops — will need to be re-registered free of cost under the new duty structure after the changes take effect.
Retailers will still be allowed to sell bottles at old prices after November 30 if they have old MRP stocks. But distributors will need to update and relabel their stock in warehouses as per the new rates.
Sources say the hike will range between ₹10 and ₹40 per 750ml bottle.
Regular brands: around ₹10 increase
Deluxe brands: around ₹20 increase
Premium brands: ₹30–₹40 increase
However, not all prices will rise equally — some manufacturers may absorb part of the increased duty to keep prices stable.
Bengal last revised liquor prices in September 2022, when rates went up by around 7–8%.
