Mumbai’s excise department raided a liquor shop in Breach Candy on Tuesday evening after NCP (Sharad Pawar) MP Supriya Sule wrote to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar demanding its closure.
The store, Living Liquidz, has been facing complaints from residents who allege it creates a nuisance in the area. Sule pointed out in her letter that the shop is close to two schools and a hospital and is often surrounded by drunk customers, cars, and taxis.
Excise officials found the shop open and selling liquor at 10:45 pm—well past the 10 pm closing time allowed in Mumbai. “We will be issuing a show-cause notice,” said Nilesh Sangde, excise superintendent for Mumbai City.
Following Sule’s social media post, excise commissioner Rajesh Deshmukh forwarded her complaint to the department, which then carried out the surprise raid.
The shop owner, Manish Pardasani, was unavailable for comment.
