An Indian whisky has just earned global recognition, winning the title of ‘International Whisky of the Year’ at the 2025 Meininger’s International Spirits Award in Germany.
The award went to GianChand Manshaa, a premium single malt crafted in the Himalayan region by Indian brand DeVANS. Not only did it top whiskies from global heavyweights like Scotland, Ireland, and the U.S., it was also the only Indian whisky among the 11 that received the prestigious ‘Grand Gold’ medal out of 450 global entries.
What Makes It Special?
GianChand Manshaa is DeVANS’ first peated single malt, meaning it has a smoky, earthy character that whisky lovers admire. It’s made using traditional methods, with barley malted and fermented before being distilled in copper pot stills. The whisky is then aged in oak barrels—often American bourbon or Oloroso sherry casks—for at least three years.
