Kerala Relaxes Dry‑Day Law to Boost High‑End Tourism

The Kerala government has relaxed its monthly dry day rule to promote tourism, especially for business events and destination weddings. Starting August 1, star-rated, heritage, and boutique hotels can serve liquor on the first day of each month—previously a dry day—if they obtain prior approval. Hotels must apply at least seven days in advance and pay a ₹50,000 fee for a one-day license. The exemption applies only to registered events and doesn’t override other government-declared dry days. Even hotels without a bar license can avail of this for specific functions.
