Guess Which Indian Whisky Was the World’s Best-Selling in 2025? It Costs Just ₹680

Indian whisky has taken over the global stage — and one brand is leading the charge. According to the 2025 Brand Champions Report by The Spirits Business, McDowell’s No. 1 has been crowned the world’s best-selling whisky — again.

This homegrown favorite sold an impressive 32.2 million cases in 2024, beating out global competition. It’s a steady climb, up from 31.4 million cases in 2023 and 30.8 million in 2022 — showing over 2.6% growth in just a year.

And here’s the kicker: a 750 ml bottle of McDowell’s No. 1 Luxury Premium Whisky costs only ₹680 in Mumbai, ₹420 in Delhi, and ₹960 in Bengaluru — making it both affordable and incredibly popular.

What Makes McDowell’s No. 1 So Popular?

Launched in 1968 by United Spirits, McDowell’s No. 1 has long held its place as India’s best-selling whisky. Its premium version blends Indian grain spirits with imported Scotch and Indian malts, giving it a smooth finish that appeals to everyday drinkers and loyal fans alike.

Taste profile?
It’s golden in color, slightly smoky, with hints of instant coffee, fruity floral notes, and a burnt, grainy finish. The whisky carries an ABV of 42.8%, which is standard across most Indian whiskies.

Indian Whiskies Dominate Global Charts

It’s not just McDowell’s making waves. Indian brands took four of the top five spots globally in 2025:

  • Royal Stag – 31 million cases

  • Royal Stag | Pernod Ricard
  • Imperial Blue – 22.9 million cases

  • Imperial Blue | Pernod Ricard
  • Officer’s Choice – 21.3 million cases

  • OFFICER'S CHOICE PRESTIGE WHISKY (500 ml) – Kerala Liquor Price

These figures prove that Indian whiskies aren’t just competing — they’re leading the world in volume and reach.

As Indian consumers continue to explore single malts and premium blends, one thing is clear: mass appeal, affordability, and consistent quality are still king — and McDowell’s No. 1 wears the crown.
