A controversy has erupted in Kerala after the state government allowed Oasis Commercial Pvt Ltd to set up a brewery unit in Palakkad district. The opposition Congress has raised concerns, accusing the company of being involved in the Delhi liquor policy case and questioning the process behind the approval.
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala criticized the government for granting permission without a tender, citing a 1991 order that prohibits the establishment of new distilleries in Kerala due to concerns over groundwater exploitation. He also pointed out allegations against the company, including its involvement in the Delhi liquor case, and claimed the government’s decision was influenced by corruption.
In response, state excise minister MB Rajesh defended the government’s decision, stating that the approval followed legal procedures. He accused the opposition of opposing all development projects in the state and vowed to clarify the matter in the Assembly.
