Diwali alcohol sales have surged dramatically this year

Liquor sales in Ahmedabad have jumped by over 15% compared to last Diwali, and they’re up about 25% from regular months as the festival approaches. The increase is largely attributed to the festive atmosphere, the onset of winter, and more house parties, as many people stock up before liquor shops close for several days during the celebrations.

Prakash Daultani, owner of The Metropole Hotel, noted that this rise in sales may be due to higher consumption during the holidays. Popular choices among consumers this year include Indian scotch, vodka, and red wine, with Indian brands becoming more favored due to their lower prices.

As winter approaches, demand for Old Monk rum is also rising, and foreign beer brands are particularly popular in the city. Around 75% of beer sales are in cans, with foreign brands like Budweiser and Druk leading the way, despite their higher price points.

Overall, the city’s growing party scene and changing consumer preferences are driving this surge in liquor sales ahead of Diwali.
