Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a crackdown on illegal meat sales and liquor shops located near religious sites, especially with festivals approaching. He directed local authorities and police to monitor open meat sales and illegal slaughterhouses, and insisted that liquor shops be closed near places of worship.
During a video conference with district officials, the CM also stressed the importance of improving security measures, particularly in light of recent incidents involving stones on railway tracks, which he suggested could be part of a conspiracy to disrupt rail services.
Adityanath urged police to remain vigilant around the clock during the festival season, assessing past incidents to ensure no disturbances occur. He emphasized the need for smooth traffic around Durga Puja events and instructed that no pandals (temporary structures) should obstruct roadways.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a peaceful and respectful atmosphere during celebrations, asking organizers to avoid loud music or actions that might offend others. Additional precautions were advised for idol immersion routes and fire safety at pandals.
To facilitate travel during festivals, the CM recommended increasing bus services in rural areas and ensuring good conduct from transport staff. He also mentioned plans to distribute free LPG cylinders to beneficiaries ahead of Diwali and called for a strict campaign against food adulteration.
Additionally, he emphasized the need for 24/7 medical services in hospitals and urged that government provisions for the needy reach their intended recipients without interference from corrupt practices. He announced that a new phase of the women’s safety initiative, Mission Shakti, will soon begin, aiming to empower and support women in various ways.
