Great news for drinkers: Premium liquor prices are going down

Bengaluru, Aug 27: Good news for drinkers in the state—premium liquor prices are going down a bit. The state government has updated the duty rates on liquor and beer, and these new rates will kick in starting August 27.

The revision reduces the number of pricing slabs for liquor from 18 to 16. While the first three slabs remain the same, prices will go up slightly for the fourth slab. However, from the fifth slab onward, prices for whisky, rum, and brandy will decrease.

Previously, excise duty was divided into 18 slabs. Now, the structure is streamlined to 16 slabs. Liquors with a production cost of up to Rs 450 per litre will be in the first slab, and those costing more than Rs 20,000 per litre will fall under the 16th slab.
