Guwahati: Assam consumers buy more than 5.30 lakh bulk litre (BL) of liquor daily on an average resulting into daily average excise revenue of over Rs 10 crore, excise minister Parimal Suklabaidya said in the assembly on Wednesday.
A ‘bulk” litre is the actual volume of a liquid. In contrast, a ‘standard’ litre is the volume of the liquid if it were at standard temperature and density. In reply to a question by Congress MLA Sibamoni Bora, Suklabaidya said the average daily sale of India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) is over three lakh BL, over 1.60 lakh BL of beer and over 57,000 BL of country spirits.
The minister said licenses for 1,684 wine shops and 896 bars have been given in the state so far. The state also has 486 country spirit shops. The state has earned Rs 1,718.75 crore in excise revenue till August this fiscal, he added.
FOREIGNERS
The government on Wednesday informed the house that more than 1.50 lakh illegal foreigners have been detected in the state as per the provisions in the Assam Accord of
1985 and over 30,000 of them have been deported so far.
The minister said 30,089 illegal foreigners have been deported on the basis of it till August 31. He also said all 100 foreigners’ tribunals are functioning currently.
BORDER DISPUTES
The state government informed the house that more than 82,000 hectares of Assam territory has been encroached by Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
Border protection and development minister Atul Bora said the boundary disputes are being resolved through talks and legal measures with the neighbouring states. Replying to a question by Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Bora said over 59,000 hectares of state’s land has been encroached by Nagaland, Arunachal more than 16,000 hectares and Mizoram and Meghalaya more than 3,000 hectares.
