U.P. Excise Earns Record Revenue of Rs. 41252 Cr. in 2022-23

Record-breaking revenue and technological advancements: How the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department is cracking down on illegal liquor

The use of technology has simplified the process for the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department, contributing to their highest-ever revenue of Rs. 41252.24 crore in the year 2022-23, by enabling strict enforcement actions against the manufacture, sale, and smuggling of illegal liquor.

As stated in the current excise policy, the U.P government is targetting to mop up about Rs 45,000 crore in excise revenue in the current financial year 2023-24.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath and Excise Minister Shri Nitin Agarwal, the department conducted 91,100 raids and confiscated 26.68 lakh B.L. of illicit liquor.

Excise Commissioner Mr. Senthil Pandian C said that the department has completely cracked down on the production of spurious liquor and has taken action against the illegal liquor business. In addition to revenue augmentation, the department is also contributing in the field of ethanol for industrial development.

This year, to bridge the gap between production and consumption, the excise department has made available a wide range of alcoholic beverages including 50 varieties of beer, over 450 types of foreign liquor, and country liquor wine. Additionally, the department has streamlined their online application process, making it easier and faster for the alcobev industry to navigate.

The department has taken various measures to prevent the manufacture and sale of illegal liquor, installing CCTV cameras in distilleries, wholesale bonds and retail shops, and using only GPS-fitted vehicles for the transportation of molasses, alcohol, and liquor.

The persistent efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Department will lead to the utilization of the state exchequer for sustainable development and public welfare schemes in the state.
