The State Excise Department has collected an all-time high revenue of Rs 2,201.94 crore in the year 2022-23 till February, 2023. As per the report of the Departmentally Related Standing Committee on Development (A) Departments presented in the Assam Legislative Assembly recently, Assam’s excise revenue collection witnessed a significant jump in the financial year 2022-23.

Till February 2023, the revenue collection was Rs 2,201.94 crore. Sources said that another Rs 200 crore-Rs 250 crore is likely to be added to this figure in March, 2023.

In FY 2020-21, the number of cases of unpaid duty was 15,956. A total of 1,096 cases were disposed of and Rs 17,50,000 fine was collected. In FY 2021-22, the number of cases of unpaid duty was 21,373. A total of 750 cases were disposed of and Rs 26,47,800 fine was collected. In FY 2022-23 till January 2023, the number of cases of unpaid duty was 13,782. A total of 128 cases were disposed of while Rs 38,91,700 fine was collected.
