Uttar Pradesh Approves New Excise Policy, Introducing 60ml and 90ml Bottles for Foreign Liquor

Uttar Pradesh has approved its new excise policy for 2025-26, which brings several changes. An e-lottery system will now be used to allocate liquor and cannabis (bhang) shop licenses. The policy also merges beer and foreign liquor outlets into “composite shops.” Additionally, smaller liquor bottles in 60ml and 90ml sizes will be available in the premium segment, and tetra-pack packaging will be introduced for country liquor to help prevent adulteration. The policy was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
