United Breweries Limited, a part of the Heineken group, has launched a new strong beer called Kingfisher Smooth in India. The new product is aimed at next-generation, legal-age consumers who prefer strong beer but want a smoother and easier drinking experience.
With this launch, United Breweries has expanded its Kingfisher portfolio in the mainstream strong beer segment. Kingfisher Smooth offers the strength that Indian beer drinkers are familiar with, while delivering a smoother and more balanced taste.
The company has initially launched the beer in Rajasthan, one of the largest strong beer–consuming states in the country. The beer is brewed using imported hops, contains no added sugar, and is designed to be more approachable without losing its strong character.
Commenting on the launch, Vivek Gupta, CEO of United Breweries Limited, said that Kingfisher Smooth is a first-of-its-kind innovation in the mainstream strong beer category and has been specially created to meet the preferences of today’s younger consumers.
United Breweries stated that extensive research, consumer testing, and design efforts went into developing both the brew and the packaging. According to Vikram Bahl, Chief Marketing Officer, the strong beer segment continues to dominate beer consumption in India, but consumers are increasingly looking for smoother strong beers that are easier to enjoy.
