Bristol Chowk Becomes Haryana’s Most Expensive Liquor Zone with ₹98 Crore Bid

Gurgaon, June 2, 2025 Bristol Chowk on Gurgaon’s upscale Golf Course Road has become the most expensive liquor zone in Haryana’s history. The licence for this area was auctioned for a whopping ₹98.6 crore on Saturday, surpassing its reserve price of ₹94.6 crore by 4.2%.

The winning bidder, G-Town Wines, was the only applicant and is now allowed to open up to two liquor shops in this zone. Interestingly, just last year, the same zone had been auctioned for ₹49.3 crore — half the amount — under the previous excise policy.

The steep rise is partly because the new liquor policy extends the licence period from 12 to 22 months, running from June 2025 to March 2027. As a result, the reserve prices for licences were also increased accordingly.

In terms of highest bids, DLF-3 came in second at ₹63 crore (against a reserve price of ₹60 crore), followed by Shankar Chowk at ₹62 crore, which matched its reserve price. While Bristol Chowk falls under Gurgaon West, DLF-3 and Shankar Chowk are part of Gurgaon East, where bidding took place earlier last week.

According to Amit Bhatia, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner, 50 out of 79 liquor zones in Gurgaon East were auctioned over the weekend, generating ₹1,270 crore in revenue — about 6% more than the total reserve price of ₹1,198 crore.

Some other zones that saw impressive bidding included:

  • Nawada: 30% above reserve price

  • South City: +25%

  • American Express (Southern Peripheral Road): +24.3%

  • Badshapur: +20.9%

  • Sikohpur and Kankrola: +20.5% each

  • Sohna Road: +16.9%

  • Banni Square: +12%

Horizon Plaza fetched ₹46.2 crore, making it the second highest bid in the East zone, while places like Signature Tower, World Mark, and Jalsa saw bids close to their reserve prices.

The remaining zones — 21 in Gurgaon West and 29 in Gurgaon East — will be auctioned on June 3 and June 5, respectively.

Officials say this third round of auctions received a better response than earlier rounds, reflecting growing interest and confidence in the new excise policy.

Gurgaon contributes around 35–40% of Haryana’s total excise revenue. The state government, which recently approved the 2025–2027 excise policy, has set a target of ₹14,064 crore in revenue. In the last fiscal year (2024–25), it collected ₹11,491 crore — nearly 90% of the ₹12,650 crore target.

The new policy also brings changes such as:

  • Earlier closing hours for liquor shops in urban areas

  • A ban on live performances in drinking areas (ahatas)

  • No liquor sales in villages with a population under 500
