92 Liquor Companies Apply to Launch 604 New Brands in Telangana

Hyderabad, April 9, 2025
Telangana is seeing a surge in interest from liquor companies wanting to introduce new products in the state. A total of 92 companies have applied to launch 604 new brands of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and beer, according to the Excise Department.

The Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL), which manages liquor distribution in the state, had issued a notification on February 23, inviting both Indian and international liquor suppliers to apply for brand approvals. The goal is to expand the variety of alcoholic beverages available to consumers in Telangana.

Originally, the last date to apply was March 15, but the deadline was extended to April 2 after several companies requested more time to comply with updated documentation rules.

Of the 604 proposed brands, 331 are new IMFL products, while 273 are foreign liquor brands. Notably, 47 companies are applying in Telangana for the first time — they submitted 386 of the total brand proposals. The remaining 218 brand applications came from 45 existing suppliers looking to expand their offerings.

Excise officials said that all applications will go through a thorough review process, and final approvals will be granted only to those meeting the state’s revised liquor policy guidelines.

The large number of applications shows how attractive Telangana’s growing alcohol market has become for both new and existing players, officials added.
